Cape Verde
Santiago is one of the most interesting of the nine inhabited Islands, with a lush mountain interior and pristine sandy beaches nestled into a jagged coastline. Banana, coconut and sugar cane plantations nestle into valleys before they meet the clear blue sea. Culturally diverse, Santiago is the most African of the Islands with traditional festivals throughout the year and a major carnival.
The City of Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, is situated here and now has an international airport and a large commercial port. This will attract tourists that are expected to grow to over 1 million by 2015. (Tourism increased 11.5% during 2007 to 313,000)
