Four wind farms to be constructed in Cape Verde The Cape Verdean government has announced plans to build four new wind farms to increase the country's energy production Four wind farms will be built in Cape Verde to increase energy production in the archipelago, Inforpress reports today (February 13th). As part of a €50 million (£44.6 million) investment by the government, the new facilities - which can produce 28MW - will be constructed on the islands of Santiago, Sal, Boavista and Sao Vicente. Energy director general Abraao Lopes has revealed that four international companies have already made proposals for the project, which will also involve infrastructure development firm InfraCo. He was quoted by the news provider as saying: "The project is being carried out in its entirety by the government and its partner. "The tender has been launched and all technical studies and preliminary conditions for its implementation carried out." Mr Lopes added that the contract phase for the supply of machines and installation has already commenced. Around $407 million worth of foreign investment was made in Cape Verde between 1994 and 2000, with money spent on tourism (58 per cent), industry (17 per cent), infrastructure (four per cent) and fisheries and services (21 per cent).
