Cape Verde fog-catchers on show at UN climate summit Device developed for water supply in Cape Verde unveiled at climate change event. Environmental experts from around the world have gathered for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Poland this week, with Cape Verde one of the countries making an impact. A delegation from the islands travelled to the event in Poznan to showcase Cape Verde's fog-catcher - an innovative device which can be used to provide water in an eco-friendly way. According to AFP, the use of fog-catchers is already established in Cape Verde, where they bring 90,000 litres of water per year to people living in mountainous regions. The device consists of a fine mesh within a wooden frame, with droplets from the fog trickling down for collection. The water can then be used for crops or purified for drinking purposes. "It collects raindrops, 'fogdrops' actually ... It's very simple and it's very cheap," exhibitor Zuzanna Armada explained. Cape Verde is aiming to generate 50 per cent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020.
