Cape Verde to get first high-voltage power line Plans for new power line on Santiago Island revealed Officials in Cape Verde have announced that two Portuguese companies will soon begin work on the archipelago's first high-voltage power line. Estimated to cost about €40 million (£31.5 million), the project is scheduled to start within the next six months and will involve the construction of a 60,000 volt cable measuring some 45 kilometres, macauhub.com reports. The development is part of the Cape Verdean government's scheme to improve power production, transport and distribution on Santiago Island. Economy ministers on Cape Verde revealed that the power line will be funded by the state and a combination of investment development banks. They also explained that the cable will stretch from the southernmost point of Santiago to Calheta de San Miguel in the north. A Portuguese contractor is also at work on the expansion to the port at Praia, the Cape Verdean capital.
