Cape Verde economy 'needs to keep developing' A leading official in Cape Verde has called for efforts to reform and strengthen the economy to continue. A leading official in Cape Verde has called for efforts to reform and strengthen the economy to continue. Janira Hopffer Almad, spokesperson for the Council of Ministers, said the government needs to press ahead with its investment programme. This, she stated, would help the west African archipelago become a strong and cohesive economy with high productivity and good living standards. In addition, she said the country's population would become increasingly balanced and cohesive. Ms Almad commented: "It is necessary and vital that the momentum of economic growth and the increase in investment is reflected in dynamic social development." She added that continuing with this strategy would also help the country to overcome problems such as poverty and unemployment. This comes after the Mo Ibrahim Foundation rated Cape Verde as one of the best-governed nations in the whole of Africa.
