Work on the expansion of the port of Praia in Cape Verde is set to commence this weekend.

Work on the expansion of the port of Praia in Cape Verde is set to commence this weekend.

According to MacauHub, the initial phase of the expansion will be carried out by a Portuguese construction consortium.

The news provider stated that the work involves rebuilding a dock, creating a new terminal and building a new access road.

It is anticipated that this will collectively cost a total of £24.4 million and last for two years.

The second phase of the project will commence in the middle of next year, with a view to completing all the work by 2011.

Cape Verde's prime minister recently praised the extent to which the country has been transformed during his tenure.

He said "great works" are underway in further enhancing the country's various amenities, such as its infrastructure and transport network.

Mr Neves added that the changes have been so rapid that that the nation has improved significantly in the last year alone.
